He will also address the challenges ahead in regards to balancing for best values, implementing this balance on the landscape, and managing forests in times of uncertainty. (Ballroom AB) 11:15 am – 12:15 pm PLENARY SESSION Has the Myth of the Omnipotent Forester Become the Reality of the Impotent Forester? Dr. Marty Luckert, Professor, Forest and Natural Resources, Economics and Policy, Department of Rural Economy, University of Alberta Dr. Don Floyd, Professor of Forest Policy and Chair, Canadian Institute for Forest Policy and Communication, Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management, University of New Brunswick Beginning in the mid-1960’s, Dr. Richard Behan published a series of seminal articles on the evolving role of the forestry profession and forest policy. His “Myth of the Omnipotent Forester” remains required reading in many North American forestry programs. In a widely read article published in 2006 in the Journal of Forestry, Dr. Luckert re-examined how the forestry profession has evolved over the 40 years since Behan’s “Myth” was published. Dr. Floyd, is the co-editor of the Journal of Forestry and has written often on the future of professional forestry. This session brings Dr. Luckert (one of Dr. Behan’s former students) and Dr. Floyd together to discuss evolving professional challenges.
